Last night we talked about the distractions that keep us from praying. We made a simple challenge to double our prayer life and each student was given a card to write 5 things they wanted to pray for (one had to be something about themselves).
In life, we don't plug something into a socket (lamp, TV, toaster) unless we're pretty sure we're going to use it and that it's going to benefit us.
As a new school year starts we have to ask what we want to plug into.
These should rise to the top of our list:
1. God - This is why we focused on prayer last night. We need to feel the love of our Father, the saving grace of Jesus, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
2. Community - Spending time with other Christians sharing life experiences and learning about how to live a life that resembles how Jesus lived his life on Earth.
Parents:
1. Make sure your child is plugging into God by praying as a family and discussing your faith (it can be as simple as talking about the Sunday morning message on the car ride home). Lead by example.
2. Being in community means you have to be there. Get your children to youth and make it a priority. School and extracurriculars are great priorities, but we can't shine in them without proper guidance and time around other Christians. Teens may be tired somedays and won't want to go to school, but guess what, they still go and learn and make friends. Isn't our faith and church even more important?
Youth:
1. Take up the prayer challenge and take time praying with each other!
2. Make a commitment to regularly be at youth to develop strong friendships and a stronger faith. Support others by lovingly encouraging them to come as well.
