Last Night we discuseed our newest "What If" (which is our summer theme) of Taming The Tongue. We talked about the power of our words and the effect that they can have on people.
I mentioned that the tongue is not merely the strongest muscle in the body, that instead it is actually the strongest organ (the tongue is made up of 16 muscles)!
We discussed 4 Dangers the tongue can possess:
1. Unclean Words (Profanity)
2. Lying Words
3. Gossiping Words
4. Quick Cutting Words of Sarcasm/Cynicism
We discussed that sometimes these happen because either A) we get careless with our words and don't realize what we're thinking; B) we use it to gain self-esteem in the wrong way instead of gaining self-confidence in a healthy way; and C) we don't think it's that big of a deal (failure to realize your words have a greater impact on others than you think)
Lastly, we showed that the power of the tongue can be used for good.
Positive effects the tongue can have on your life:
1. Uplift & Encourage
2. Motivate
3. Love & Truth (not one or the other, but both!)
4. Grow stronger spiritually (thinking about what you say makes you listen better to the heart of God!)
5. More peaceful life = less drama
Some may not see this as the most spiritual of lessons. But I think what we talk about and say reflects the condition of our heart, and the more intent we have to honor God with what we say then the more we will grow in our relationship.
Kind, loving words were shown by Christ in many stories! If we are following Christ in our lives, then we are called to that same high standard!
(1st person to post a meaningful message on this gets free fast food on a Wed night!)
I'll have a "fun" post later in the week for you!
Wednesday night is Grillin' and Fireworks at my house. Be there at 7pm!
